Carrillo is tiny and quiet compared to Samara, with few restaurants & no clubs or beach bars.
Carrillo's main street consists of a tiny supermarket, a liquor store (local beers are Pilsen and Imperial), a cemetary, the police station, the school and, of course, the football field. If you venture down the side streets, you'll find various restaurants, a pool hall and a horse farm, but if you're a very active tourist you'll probably spend most of your time in Samara.
7 kilometers (about 5 miles) north of Carrillo, Samara has lots of restaurants, clothes shops & souvenir stores, a post office, a bank, a pharmacy and two internet cafes. There's also a nightclub - La Gondola, an International Language School, and Shake Joe's - a great bar/restaurant with couches and beds right on the beach, where people go to relax after their active "touristy" days.
When you've had enough excitement, it's 15 minutes home to Carrillo, where you can buy groceries & cook in your apartment, barbecue in the back garden, walk to a local restaurant, or get in the hammock and watch the moon and stars.
